He took the same practice field he had spent the past four years playing on next to his two former teammates, who he considers brothers after they arrived on the Plains in the same 2016 recruiting class. He caught up with his former coaches.

Gus Malzahn considers Mike Norvell a friend in the coaching business. When the former was the offensive coordinator at Tulsa in 2007-08, the latter was a graduate assistant on his staff. When Malzahn left for Auburn in 2009, Norvell was elevated to passing game coordinator.
